SHAPING CANADA'S SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAINS

New opportunities are coming for organizations to use procurement to gain a competitive edge and drive sustainability impact through innovation and strategic partnerships. Actors in the supply chain are facing new challenges as the supply chain is becoming increasingly complex. They will need new ways of managing risks while positioning themselves to navigate changing market conditions. As sustainability is evolving quickly, companies are no longer expected to manage impacts and risks solely within their operational gates. Business is now expected to manage risks beyond their operational control and throughout their value chain.

This event will bring together supply chain and sustainability leaders along with business leaders and students to connect, learn and create a vision for a sustainable supply chain network in Canada. We invite you to be part of this founding member group that will help shape the agenda for this network moving forward.

Your registration will include a drink ticket and hors d'oeuvre. Eligible members will receive 2 CPD for attending.

WHY IS THIS CRITICAL NOW?

The timeframe to meet global climate commitments as set out in the Paris Agreement to avoid climate catastrophe is rapidly closing. Every company will play a part in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Professionals within companies can help lead this change. Companies will need to understand and mitigate new risks such as increased severe weather patterns, new regulations and customer expectations, while preparing for new market opportunities, strategic partnerships and innovative business models. To prepare, professionals will need to better understand sustainability and how they can integrate environmental and social factors into their organizations.

Join us for an insightful event of learning and networking. The event will feature discussions from Supply Chain Canada, Carmen Turner (Vancouver-based sustainability expert), and some of BC’s prominent Social Enterprises!

LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • Define key supply chain sustainability terms and their application to businesses.

  • Build networking relationships with professional peers.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Carmen Turner

CARMEN TURNER

Carmen Turner, MSc, Founder, Carmen Turner Sustainability Ltd., has over 22 years of experience in corporate sustainability, working primarily in the natural resource sector including mining and oil and gas. She spent 13 years at Teck Resources, developing and leading their sustainability program from the ground up. While at Teck, Carmen led the management of Teck's 14 GRI Sustainability Reports, implemented the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Assurance Framework and process and implemented the Mining Association of Canada's Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) program for 13 operations. She also led the development of Teck's sustainability strategy where long-term 20-year goals and short-term 5-year goals and targets were set.

She has since started her consultancy where she pulls together experienced consultants to support companies from various industries to develop ESG and sustainability strategies that are aligned with global ESG standards and frameworks. She has also led projects to help companies adopt the Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), develop emissions reduction transition plans, and conduct climate risk assessments and climate disclosure reports. She has more recently supported companies to adapt emerging disclosure regulations such as Canada’s Modern Slavery Act and the European Corporate Directive on Sustainability Disclosures (CSRD). In addition to developing strategies with clients, Carmen supports executives to help implement ESG practices by coaching her clients to develop leadership skills and influence in their organizations through her one-on-one coaching and group programs.
